What good is good?

The problem of choosing between evil and good is very old. About what good is good, our article will tell.

If you do not realize the very essence of good and evil, it will be impossible to understand both the essence of our world and the role assigned to each of us in the world. Without this, such concepts as honor, conscience, morality, spirituality, morality, truth, freedom, justice, righteousness, sinfulness, decency and many others lose their meaning.

The question of evil and good

It is not by chance that the question of evil and good is the main question of all religions, especially Christianity and Zoroastrianism. It was not by chance that all the great prophets, beginning with Zarathustra, spoke of evil and good, and to this day such sciences as philosophy, psychology and ethics, astrology and pedagogy have been fighting. Thousands of diplomas, abstracts, dissertations, essays and books are writing about this in literature and other forms of art.

Good is the central category of morality and the highest value (moral); to do good is the main regulator of moral behavior. Evil is the opposite of good.It is, as it were, “anti-value”, that is, that which is incompatible with the moral behavior of a person. Evil and good are not "equal" beginnings. Evil is considered to be the "downside" of good or retreat from it. For example, in Islam and Christianity, God (he means good) is almighty, and the devil (he means evil) is only capable of seducing people to break any of God's commandments.

Ethical and moral evaluation

The concepts of evil and good lie at the heart of the ethical evaluation of the behavior of all people. If a person does a “good”, “good” act, we “appropriate” to such a person a positive moral evaluation. And if he does a “bad”, “evil” act - a negative moral evaluation. That's what good is good. After all, if all people did only good, life would be much better. Doing good is much more pleasant than evil, because having made a good deed always comes joy.

If we consider human behavior from an ethical point of view, it can be seen that in many respects the behavior is morally neutral, that is, they deserve neither a negative nor a positive moral assessment. For example, the process of eating, dressing and washing, reading, going to the theater, walking are such things that they themselves are neither immoral nor moral.

A “non-zero” moral grade is “assigned” only to those actions that:

  • Done intentionally.
  • They have any social significance, that is, indirectly or directly affect the interests of some people, destroy or create some values.

Such actions are called actions. For example, buying bread in a shop you do not do an act, but if you share bread with the needy or take it away from the suffering person, these will be actions that will receive “plus” and “negative” moral evaluations, respectively.

The question of what is better: good or evil, no one can answer unequivocally That is why there are many answer options. Surely, the man himself must decide how to act on the path of life.

In real life, we meet both evil and good, because people commit both bad and good deeds. The idea that in man and the world around him there is a constant struggle between the “forces of evil” and “the forces of good” is a fundamental idea that permeates the entire history of the culture of our world.

Now you know what good is and you will know what to do next!
